Is there a Choicer Voicer online or browser version?

No. It is a Windows and Linux download with no web build and no online mode, and no amount of searching turns up an official one. The rest of this page is what people do instead.

Why there is not one

The game is built in Godot and shipped as a desktop executable. Godot can export to the web, but a browser build is a different piece of work from a desktop one — video decoding in particular behaves nothing like it does on a desktop — and nothing about how this game is sold suggests one is planned. Treat any site offering a browser version of it as something other than what it claims to be.

The absence of an online mode is a separate thing and more deliberate. The game is designed around a room: one screen, one machine, people watching each other perform. That is a real design position rather than a missing feature, and it is why the game is as good as it is at what it does.

Playing it with people who are not there

The usual method needs nothing from the game. One person runs it and shares their screen over a call with the sound routed through, everybody else watches the shared window, and performers take turns down the call. It works, in the sense that people do it and enjoy it.

It works imperfectly, and it is worth knowing how before you plan an evening on it: screen shares compress video, so mouths and audio drift apart by a fraction of a second, and a fraction of a second is exactly the precision this game asks of a performer. The person hosting also has to drive every menu for everybody, which puts one person in a job for the whole session.

What actually works in a browser

If the constraint is that everybody is somewhere else, a game built for that will beat a workaround around a game that is not. PartyDub is a dubbing game that runs in a browser: someone opens a room, everybody else joins with a six-character code, and each person dubs the same clip without hearing what anybody else did — then it is all played back and the room votes.

The clip comes off whoever is hosting rather than from a pack, so there is nothing to download and nothing to convert. It is free, and it is made by the same person who runs this site, which is said here for the same reason it is said everywhere else on it.

It is not The Choicer Voicer and this page is not pretending otherwise. If what you want is that game, it is a download and it is worth the money — the link is at the top of this page and in the footer of every page here.
